ABOUT COMMANDER SUBMARINE GROUP SEVEN

Submarine Group 7 was activated as Commander Task Force 157 (CTF 157) on 15 October 1992 to direct all submarine operations and mission tasking in the Central Command AOR, including the Red Sea and Arabian Gulf.  On 1 July 1995, upon establishment of the U.S. FIFTH Fleet, CTF 157 was redesignated as CTF 54.

Submarine Group 7 is comprised of submarines deployed to the Western Pacific and a permanently forward deployed submarine tender.  Commands and units under operational control of Submarine Group 7 include Submarine Squadron 15 in Guam, which was reactivated in February 2001 and the Guam based tender, USS FRANK CABLE (AS 40).

Commander Submarine Force SEVENTH Fleet coordinates and controls submarine activities over a vast expanse covering nearly forty-eight percent of the earth’s surface, ranging from the Western Pacific to the Indian Ocean.  CTF 74 directs all submarine operations and mission tasking requirements in the SEVENTH Fleet area of responsibility (AOR).  As the SEVENTH Fleet submarine movement advisory authority, CTF 74 de-conflicts submarine movements of allied and friendly submarines in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans.  CTF 74 is also responsible for staff briefing, and repairs for those submarines operating in SEVENTH Fleet.

Unit awards include the Navy Unit Commendation for the period 1 October 1969 to 1 December 1970; the Meritorious Unit Commendation for the periods 1 January 1979 to 31 December 1980, 1 May 1990 to 1 June 1991, 1 October 1993 to 31 May 1995, and 1 July 1998 to 1 March 2001; and a Chief of Naval Operations Letter of Commendation for the period 1 December 1995 to 30 June 1998.
